Van line versus an independent mover (2026)

A van line is a brand and a network. An independent is one company and one truck. Both can be fine. Both can be a mill. The USDOT and the name on the van matter more than the logo.

What the brand actually is

US van lines often book through local agents. The truck on the day may be a different agent than the office you called. Ask who holds the estimate and who drives.

Independents can be cheaper on a regional hop and worse on claims if they have no scale. Check the USDOT, insurance, and whether the website matches the doors.

UK and Canada

There is no national UK remover licence and no Canadian federal mover licence. A trade-body logo is not a licence. Companies House, insurance, and a name that matches the van still win.

Questions

Is a van line safer?

Sometimes. A network has a complaints path. It can also hide which agent actually has your goods. Look up the USDOT on the estimate.
