When to book movers (2026)
For a US peak Saturday in June through August, four to eight weeks is the adult answer. February on a Tuesday can still be a two-week job. A quote with no survey is a guess you will pay for later.
Best day of the week to move (2026)
Tuesday through Thursday is cheaper in most US cities we price. Saturday at month-end is how you donate an extra 20% to peak demand.
How much to tip movers (2026)
US custom sits around $4–$8 per person per hour, or $40–$80 a person after a hard day. Pay after the inventory is signed. UK tipping is smaller and not required.
How many movers and hours you need (2026)
A local 2-bed with clean access is often three people and a 20–26 foot truck. A walk-up, a piano, or a long carry adds a fourth body or a second trip. Hours matter more than a magic headcount.
Video survey versus an in-home visit (2026)
A video walk-through beats a quote with no survey. An in-home visit still wins when stairs, a piano, or a tight turn decide the job. Haulest will not put an estimator on money pages until it is accurate.
Same-day movers (2026)
A same-day crew is leftovers. In February on a Tuesday it can still work. In July on a Saturday you are shopping whoever is left, and you will pay for that.
UK waiting time on completion day (2026)
If keys slip to 3pm, the van is on the clock. Ask what waiting time costs before you celebrate a cheap figure. There is no national UK remover licence.
Where to get free moving boxes (2026)
Liquor stores, grocers, and Buy Nothing groups still give boxes away. They are also wet, filthy, or the wrong size. A kitchen still wants dish boxes you can buy.
Van line versus an independent mover (2026)
A van line is a brand and a network. An independent is one company and one truck. Both can be fine. Both can be a mill. The USDOT and the name on the van matter more than the logo.
